Practice and Personal Background
Since June 1976, Tom Alexander has primarily practiced in the area of civil litigation. Tom has balanced the benefits of specialization in civil litigation and trial practice with the strengths of a broad range of over thirty years experience in multiple types of litigation. His personal injury/wrongful death and business litigation experience include representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has represented professionals both in medical malpractice litigation and professional licensing board hearings. He is approved counsel for Georgia Lawyers Insurance Company, and has handled attorney professional negligence claims. Tom co-authored the Handbook on Georgia Medical Malpractice Law, published by the Harrison Company, and has been a frequent speaker on medical malpractice and product liability law issues at continuing education seminars. In addition to products liability litigation and other business litigation, his experience includes RICO claims, employment termination, insurance coverage and fraud cases, Section 1983 and other constitutional rights violation litigation. He has represented many state, municipal and county governmental entities regarding a broad range of governmental liability matters, including highway design and construction issues. Tom earned a BBA (Cum Laude) from the University of Georgia in 1973 and graduated from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University (J.D., Cum Laude), with academic honors including the Brainerd Curre Honor Society and serving as Mercer Law Review, Fifth Circuit Survey Editor. Tom has been active in his community and profession, holding leadership roles including President of the Macon Bar Association, 1986; Life Fellow of Lawyers Foundation of Georgia since 1989; Martindale-Hubbell Rating AV; President of Vine Ingle Little League, 1994; and President of Stratford Academy Booster Club, 1999/2000. He was Middle District Representative of the Georgia Defense Lawyer's Board of Directors, 1986-1992, and Amicus Brief Chairman, 1997-2000. The Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, a national association founded in 1941, limits its membership to one member selected from each city and Tom has been Macon/Bibb County's representative since 1989.
