Susan Gunter, a partner since 2002 at the Toronto litigation firm Dutton Brock LLP, holds an LL.M in Civil Litigation (Osgoode Hall Law School), an LL.B. (University of New Brunswick) and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996. Her litigation practice focuses on insurance and professional liability litigation. Susan chairs the DRI Center for Law and Public Policy Globalization Working Group, focusing on privacy law, law profession regulation and law-tech initiatives, and was DRI Board Liaison to DRI International. As a Director of DRI The Voice of the Defense Bar (2014-2017), Susan chaired the DRI for Life committee on lawyer wellness (2016-2017). Susan is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the Canadian Association for Legal Ethics, the Toronto Civil Bench and Bar Committee. She is active in continuing legal and risk management education and speaks frequently on professionalism and ethics, lawyers professional regulation, litigation and privacy. Susan is Past President (2009-2010) of the Canadian Defence Lawyers and a current Director of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Foundation. She is a member of the CDL Public Policy Secretariat, Womens Caucus and Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and the American Bar Association. Susan is a past Director of the Advocates Society, Past Co-Chair of its Personal Injury Practice Group, past member of its Civil Trials Task Force and current certified skills instructor. She has authored articles for the Annual Review of Civil Litigation, the Advocates Quarterly and For the Defense.
