Practice and Personal Background

I am a Member of Burns White LLC's Tampa office. My practice focuses are the areas of medical malpractice defense, healthcare law, and insurance defense litigation. In my 28-year career, I have represented all types of healthcare facilities and providers, including hospitals, physicians, nurses, behavioral health organizations, hospices, and long-term care facilities. I am a Florida Supreme Court Certified Arbitrator. I have taken numerous cases to trial, and have handled appeals in both state and federal appellate courts. Though I have handled matters involving all aspects of healthcare, I have particular experience handling obstetrical injury claims, including disputes over the application of Florida’s Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA). I have frequently given presentations to legal, healthcare, and insurance professionals on a wide range of topics relating to medical malpractice, healthcare risk management, and medical privacy. I was also appointed as an adjunct professor at Florida State University College of Law, where I co-developed and co-taught a class in Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Quality Improvement. I have an AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell; I have been named a Florida Super Lawyer; and I am listed in Best Lawyers in America. I have served as the President of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association. I am a member of the Florida Society for Healthcare Risk Management and Patient Safety and served as Co-Chair of its Advocacy Committee. I am a proud alumnus of Boston College, where I received both my Bachelor of Arts, in political science and my Juris Doctor. I was recognized for excellence in advocacy as part of a team representing the school at the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. While at Boston College, I broadcast football and hockey games for WZBC-FM, I ran the law school intramural sports program, and I performed in the Law Revue Show, the University Chorale and the Wand'ring Mistrials.
