Practice and Personal Background

Partner Jerry Hawkins is a highly experienced litigator with a comprehensive background in civil litigation defense. His experience includes the defense of a wide array of personal injury and wrongful death claims, ranging from automobile and premises liability, to both local and national expert-intensive tort cases like product liability and medical malpractice. Since beginning his legal career in 1997, Jerry has earned a reputation as one of the region's most accomplished attorneys in these areas. He holds an AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, and is named in the Missouri-Kansas Super Lawyers. Jerry's practice spans a wide range of sectors, from representing nonprofit organizations and municipalities to defending businesses, contractors, property owners, and individuals. His strategic insight and tenacious advocacy have led to favorable outcomes in complex healthcare and personal injury litigation cases. In addition to his litigation practice, Jerry is well-versed in appellate law, handling appeals in both state and federal courts. He is admitted to practice before the Kansas state courts, federal courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. He is also a sought-after speaker, frequently presenting legal issues affecting the medical and insurance industries. Outside his legal practice, Jerry is passionate about music and has played the violin since he was seven. He is a member of the string group Lawyers Pulling Strings, a Wichita-based string group for attorneys, and Grow Valley Strings, a community-based string group whose goal is to bring back a string program to their local school district. A violin is also a fiddle, and one of Jerry's favorite escapes is joining the jam sessions that occur at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in the fall. In addition to his musical talents, he is a lifetime vegetable gardener, and shares not only his produce but his home-made pickles, salsas and hot sauces at the office. Jerry is a community advocate, and has been instrumental in several projects involving parks, sidewalks and bike paths. In addition to his love of biking, Jerry rides a unicycle, showcasing that in life as in the courtroom, remaining confident, centered and balanced is everything. Jerry and his wife Tambra are the proud parents of three sons, and they have two grandchildren.
